DVD Peking Opera Blues
image
Compared to the Megastar previous edition, I would give a little advantage to this image. The Megastar one is slightly bigger, but you don't lose a lot by picking this one. It's not the same compression, nor the same brightness. The Megastar one was a bit too bright, not as much as the worse HK DVDs, but not perfect. This Deltamac version is darker and more balanced, and offers better details (you can guess the grain, when it was absent on the Megastar version). Except that it's the same story, not very clean, colors not very vivid, but it's still the best way to watch the movie for the moment.
sound
The original mono track, not really better or worse than the 5.1 track of the Megastar. Advantage: no more sound effects both on the front and on the surround speakers. Disadvantage: the music is quite flat on one speaker only.
subtitles
Good quality.
special features
One trailer only, when there were some biographies on the Megastar version.
menus
Decent menus, but the Megastar version was slightly better.
quality/price ration
Overall, the image is not great, but slightly better than the previous one, sound is not remixed, so no bad surprise, and the low price justifies the lack of special features. As there isn't any better version out there, this one is a very decent purchase for this movie.
