DVD Chinese Ghost Story, A
image
The copy is spotless, everything remains very clear throughout the film despite the predominant dark scenes, there do not seem to be any problem with the frame, this is as good as you could have expected from that renowned publisher.
sound
The music is very present, this is not a bad thing of course, as the original mixing of the film certainly emphasized that aspect, but you would tend to wish it was not that present in certain occurences as in the opening theme and various other occasions where there is no real singing and the music is still in the foreground. I guess this and the tacky swooshing fairy sound effects that are faithfully renderred here partake of the charm of a typical 1980s film's sound treatment.
subtitles
Perfect, no problem.
special features
Many very interesting features; an interview with Wu Ma entitled "The Warrior", a tribute to Leslie Cheung, interviews with Ching Siu Tung and Tsui Hark about the making of Chinese Ghost Story, trailers of the film and other HKL releases, as usual.
menus
Neat animated menu, nice box cover.
quality/price ration
The best way to enjoy the film next to a possible theatre viewing.
